10 Perfect Songs On Terrible Albums

9. Far Away - Nickelback

And from one regrettable act we come to one of the biggest punching bags in the history of rock and roll. There's a good chance that you don't need someone like me to tell you that Nickelback is hated...chances are you've seen countless articles already say that at length. Chad Kroeger might not be on the level of Freddie Mercury or anything, but he can actually write something a bit more compelling when he wants to.

Which is strange considering All the Right Reasons was the moment where Nickelback really started to live up to their wasted potential, with Photograph turning into one of the biggest memes of the mid '00s. In between that and satire songs like Rockstar, there was also Far Away, which is a much more downtempo ballad that goes down a lot smoother. Without his signature scream, Chad actually sounds a lot more tolerable here, penning a nice song about being in a long distance relationship and trying to keep that connection even when you're half a world away.

Granted, the rock style is turned way back for a song like this, but Chad's voice is what really keeps it in the category, trying to tap into something a little bit heartfelt than just the raw aggression that he gets into half the time. This might be a cheesy ballad for most people, but if you find yourself falling on the more country side of rock and roll, you may actually want to give this one a shot.
