10 Perfect Songs On Terrible Albums
6. Bullets - Creed
Ever since they broke up in the early '00s, everyone and their mother has tried their hand at their own terrible Creed impression. Their unique brand of spiritual post grunge may have seemed unique at the time, but hearing Scott Stapp blatantly copy Eddie Vedder's signature vocal style falls more on the corny side the more times you listen to it. The rest of the band did have some fire in their playing though, and it actually looked like we were going to hear some of it on the opening song to Weathered.
Though this entire record is known as the moment where things went way off the rails for the band, Bullets actually starts things off on the right foot, with Mark Tremonti pulling double duty on both guitar and bass and making a song that's probably the closest to metal that the band ever got. Scott is actually in rare form behind the mic this time around as well, playing off of the riffs in just the right way and actually having some fire in his delivery, understanding how they need to start off this record big after the success of Human Clay.
Then again, this song almost is better to look at in retrospect than it did at the time. From the aggressive sounds in the guitars to the more high energy vocal performances, this feels like it doesn't belong in the same category as a Creed song. Scott may have still been one of the biggest rock stars at the time, but the structure of this track is practically a warm up for Alter Bridge.
