3. Marnie Stern

Marnie Stern literally burst onto the scene in an explosion of frenetic fretwork with her 2007 debut album. She has a penchant for frantic tapping, and as such was named one of Venus Zine's Greatest Female Guitarists of All Time. Stern's technique blasts through with Van Halen-esque riffs, combined with a punk spirit that can make listening to her music feel like you're being smacked in the face, and at times pushes the boundaries of what is listenable. Her love of interweaving guitar work is both impressive and confounding. To the disgust of fools, Stern takes harsh musical risks which can render her records a sweet/sour listening experience as you try and ascertain where the song will go next. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZDtMTY0I3w
