10 Pop-Princesses Who Actually Had Something Worthwhile To Say
3. Katy Perry
Katy Perry was met with a frosty response when she announced in December 2009 that she planned to marry funny-man Russell Brand. And as so many predicted, after a lavish Indian themed wedding complete with a real life tiger, the marriage came to an end just fourteen months later when Brand filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences in December 2011. Over the next couple of years Katy seemed to be doing well after the split, especially considering reports that Brand hadn't even spoken to her since sending her a text to say he wanted a divorce. But, when Katy's 3D film Part of Me was released in July 2012, rumours began to surface that Katy was far from okay following the divorce, but it wasn't until her most recent album Prism was released that it came to light just how badly the split had knocked the star. In an interview with Billboard magazine, Katy admitted that she had felt depressed after her marriage broke up and wondered whether she wanted to continue living. Katy wrote the autobiographical song, By The Grace of God to express what she was feeling at this time. The song portrays Katy's vulnerable side and includes lyrics such as "Thought I wasn't enough and I wasn't so tough/ Laying on the bathroom floor" and "By the grace of God/ I picked myself back up", reinforcing Katy's faith that is so often focused on in the media.
