10 Pop-Princesses Who Actually Had Something Worthwhile To Say

2. Lily Allen

London-born singer, Lily Allen has never been one to shy away from her opinions but when the songstress bounced back onto the pop scene last year, after a short break from the music industry to raise a family, no one could have predicted just how much impact her newest release would have. Hard Out Here was released in November 2013 and instantly made its way into the charts but as anything with Lily, it was not without its controversies. It has been reported that the song was written as a response to Robin Thicke's hugely controversial song Blurred Lines, as well as Miley Cryus' hit pop single We Can't Stop, with the main themes of the song include misogyny and the pressures of body image in the entertainment industry. In spite of its risky lyrics, the song received huge critical acclaim and it seems that Lily's tune has had the desired effect as it hasn't yet left the charts. Speaking about the song, Lily claimed she had the idea for it when she went to see a plastic surgeon for a liposuction consultation but soon found out that she was pregnant and didn't go through with the planned surgery. This led her to conjure up the idea for the Hard Out Here video which opens with Lily lying on an operating table, talking about the pressures women, in particular, face in the music industry. Lily hopes that the song will make people notice the realities of the entertainment business and with an album soon to follow the single, who knows what other risky topics she has up her sleeve.
