8 Essential German Artists Who Aren't Rammstein

4. Donots

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CrDt3SBruM As the only band on this list who sings solely in English, the Ibbenbüren-based punk rock group Donots have a relatively large fan base outside of Germany. Having released their eighth album, "Wake the Dogs" in 2012, the band made a name for themselves in the past touring as a supporting act for American bands such as Midtown and Blink-182, as well as European punk bands like Millencolin and fellow German band the Beatsteaks. The band made a splash when they released their pop-punk hit "Superhero" in 2001, but as with most of the bands in this list in recent years Donots have shifted their sound. Their recent works contain more alternative/folk-rock sounds, drawing inspiration from artists such as Frank Turner and Joey Cape - the former being featured in their hit "So Long." Donots celebrated their 20th anniversary of being a band this year by releasing one of their only German-sung songs "Das Neue bleibt beam Alten" featuring Tim McIlrath - best known as the frontman for the hugely popular hardcore-punk band Rise Against - as a free download. If these collaborations with big-name artists don't push them even more into stardom, then we don't know what will. Recommended if you like: Future Idiots, Frank Turner, Blink-182
