10 Popular Guitar Riffs Invented Accidentally
2. Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant
The Sex Pistols were a breath of fresh air when they attempted to smash up the monarchy and bring anarchy to an otherwise conservative '70s Britain. The band was miles away from what was popular at the time, with disco and funk taking up the majority of the decade's musical aesthetics.
Therefore, it comes as a surprise to see that band member, Glen Matlock, was once inspired by the legendary bubblegum pop band, Abba. That's right, Matlock was a big fan of well written then-minute pop songs, something Abba did to perfection.
One day, while listening to Abba's "S.O.S", Matlock picked up his guitar and began playing along. The short-lived experiment then turned into a crumbled up version of the iconic, "Pretty Vacant" a song that screams punk through its retching riff from the get-go.
Who would have thought it?
