"Bop bopa-a-lu a whop bam boo Tutti frutti, au- rutti Tutti frutti, au-rutti Tutti frutti, au-rutti Tutti frutti, au-rutti Tutti frutti, au-rutti A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boom."
This song's flagrant disregard for the norm is precisely what catapulted it to success upon its 1955 release. At the time, conformist society needed a form of releaseand Little Richard knew how to provide just that. "Tutti Frutti" opens with one of rock'n'roll's finer uses of onomatopoeia. While Little Richard successfully grabs the listener with his vocal drum kit, things start to unravel by the sixth "Tutti Frutti." Although Little Richard's original lyrics were deemed a little too much of a release (we'll let Wikipedia field that one), the song remains as nonsensical as ever, and is a staple in the history of rock as we know it.
