10 Popular Songs That Are Actually Terrible

4. The Killers - Mr. Brightside

As someone who has recently graduated from university, I can confidently say that the most painful thing out of the whole ordeal is being plagued by this travesty of a song on every single night out. No matter the club either! The pop club, Mr. Brightside. The trap/hip hop club, Mr. Brightside. The indie club, Mr. Brightside. The rock/metal club, I poop you not, they put this in between Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson and In Too Deep by Sum 41.

The sing-along nature of the song is undoubtedly the root of the song's popularity. Simple, eligible verses, broken up by the bombastic, 'everybody to the dance floor' chorus, the perfect combination. They go together like alcohol and regrets. This will be why then 'Mr. Brightside' has charted in the top 100 every year since 2004.

What I can't shake though is how bored everyone looks and sounds in the video. Granted, this was at the peak of mainstream indie music where it was fashionable to act like you didn't care about the thing that was putting food on your table, frontman Brandon Flowers sings the most powerful part of the chorus looking like he'd rather be at home cultivating cabbages. They even got Eric Roberts for the music video and even he looks like he's having a better time.
