10 Problems You'll Only Understand If You Date A DJ
6. Taking On The Role Of PA/Handyman/General Dogsbody
While you thought you were just along for the ride each evening, you're actually far more involved with the setting up of each set than you thought you would be. Moving around speakers and decks might not be your job (because you're a girl and no one would dream of letting you hump around such heavy objects), but getting drinks in, organising where wires should go, keeping track of all the right leads and helping out the sound guys with the microphone are all tasks that occasionally fall to you. You're frequently asked to hand out tickets and put up posters or flyers, and you've had to stand on the door and count people in before (even though you thought clubs had their own specific staff to that job). It also falls to you to go on a food run if your DJ boyfriend gets hungry, or watch the playlist if he has to take a toilet break. And that's not even exciting, more just an added responsibility which you're never going to be paid for.
I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
