10 Rap Albums That Rock Fans Need To Check Out

7. Enter the Wu Tang - Wu Tang Clan

For as polarizing as both hip hop and rock and roll are, they do have a lot more in common than most are willing to give them credit for. Let's face it, they both piss off the straight edge listeners, they each have a common ground of rebelling against authority, and more often than not the greatest in their field are depicted as outsiders or outlaws in regards to the common man. It's almost like a tribe of musicians, and it doesn't get more tribal than Wu Tang Clan.

While some may be quick to put someone like a Tribe Called Quest in a slot like this for their amalgamations of different genres, Wu Tang captured something on their debut that very few artists could: punk rock energy. Having the kung fu movies of their youth being as much a part of their sound as rap, this was the kind of DIY aesthetic that felt reminiscent of the days of the Ramones and Television than anything else.

They also spared no expense in regards to the raw nature of their performance, with Method Man and Ghostface Killah coming through with some of the greatest bars of the '90s, all while ODB painted some of the grimmest pictures of inner city life. Much like the rock that came before and after it, you have to recognize that an album like this ain't nothing ta f*ck wit.
