10 Rap Albums That Rock Fans Need To Check Out

8. Collision Course - Linkin Park and Jay Z

Granted, it's not like hip hop is known for being the most rock-friendly of genres to begin with. Aside from a few rock samples in the early days, it would take a lot for someone who's been a lifelong fan of someone like Green Day to suddenly get on the hype train for an artist like Kendrick Lamar. That being said, allow your humble author to extend an olive branch with Linkin Park's Collision Course.

Being lifelong fans of rap music, Collision Course was the kind of remix album that the guys in Linkin Park had been itching to make since the beginning, finally going into the studio with Hova himself to offset their trademark songs. As much as Mike Shinoda is a competent MC on his own terms, hearing Jay blast his bars from Encore on songs like Numb is that kind of peanut butter and chocolate combination that goes over much better than most thought it would.

It certainly helps that a lot of Jay's verses are taken from his better albums, being indebted to the Black Album period where he was starting to come into his own as one of the meanest rappers on the East Coast. Jay may have found his protoge in Kanye West, but he did at least have some friends on the rock side that were willing to play off of him just as well.
