10 Rap Songs That Sampled Classical Music

6. Enjoy Yourself - A+ (1998)

Sample: A Fifth of Beethoven by Walter Murphy ( sample of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5)

Producer: Ty Fyffe

You gotta give it to these teenage rapping wonders of the 90s: they knew how to make a hit (or at least record labels knew how to make a hit off of them).

Enjoy Yourself belongs in the same realm as Kriss Kross’s Jump or Aaron Carter’s Aaron Party: fun, undemanding songs, with catchy beats and incredible mainstream appeal, that make whichever staff member pitched them employee of the month and unsurprisingly become song of the month.

That’s where it ends though, cause once the catchy has been sucked out, no substance is left, and the performers fall back to anonymity. A+ had it even worse than his peers, completely vanishing from the public’s sight after 1999.

A Fifth of Beethoven was itself a hit in the 70s, and it’s no surprise its rap update was successful. In terms of catching the ear and being instantly likeable, this beat is probably the best on this list. With a better rapper on it, it could’ve been a classic.
