10 Rare Muse Songs You've Probably Never Heard
8. Sober - Showbiz
At the start of Muse's career, they were getting a lot of blowback from fans and critics for being a carbon copy of the other acts around them. While a lot of Showbiz is still great for what it is, it's clear that Matt's tenor is still sounding a little too much like Thom Yorke from Radiohead at this stage. Even though they still had their influences on their sleeve at this point, there was still a lot of fun to be had on Sober.
As opposed to the heady tracks we would see later down the line, this fun track about the pleasures that come from drinking your troubles away is definitely a strange look for them. Much like the Royal Canadian Blended Whisky at the top of the song though, the rest of the track ends up going down real easy, as Bellamy goes full glam rock on the chorus of "YOU'RE SO SOLID."
You can also pick up influences from other shades of rock and roll as well, with the buzzy bass owing its origins to garage rock and Bellamy's vocal leaps sounding more in line with something like Jeff Buckley. Though you might not have thought that a drinking song written by Muse was something you needed in your life, it's hardly a complaint when it hits this hard.
