10 Rare Muse Songs You've Probably Never Heard
4. Sign O The Times - Prince Cover
It truly was a dark day for the entire music community when Prince passed away. For a man who was treated like a pop diva in his prime, he was every bit the musical genius he seemed to be across his massive amount of albums in the '80s. Though countless artists were paying their tributes, it's strange how well Muse respected the work of the Purple One.
Taking on the title track from Prince's 1987 masterpiece, Muse treat Sign o the Times with the utmost reverence, almost like they are performing precious material. One wrong move, and the whole thing could come crashing down. Though they definitely put their own unique spin on Prince's classic tune, you can tell that Matt Bellamy is putting his falsetto runs in just the right spots, as he twists the notes around in the same way that Prince would have if he performed it.
Much like his music though, it's hard to really mess with the perfection that Prince created to begin with, as Muse remain pretty faithful to the studio version while finding ways to tastefully put their own spin on things. While everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Corey Taylor have made Prince tributes in the past, this will probably go down as one of the better ones. It's hard to say what Prince would make of this, but when it's treated with this much respect, there's no doubt he'd be proud.
