10 Rarest Band T-Shirts Of All Time
2. Run-DMC - ‘My Adidas’– $13000
An original 80s Run-DMC ‘My Adidas’ tee will thoroughly set you back financially.
One of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, Run-DMC were one of the first bands to truly realize the collaboration of monetising their lifestyle and fashion with merchandise. They’re pioneers in doing so in the hip-hop community, with hosts of artists now doing it with product endorsements and sponsorships.
They were famous for wearing Adidas sneakers, with fans holding up the shoes at their concerts in appreciation, and in doing so, the band signed an endorsement contract for Adidas worth $1.6 million. DMC released the single ‘My Adidas’ in 1986, the first lines in the song being ‘My Adidas, walk through concert doors, and roam all over coliseum floors…’
It may have seemed like DMC were selling out but they truly had a liking/love for Adidas’ sneakers. Their look hit the mainstream when the band did. Since then Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and Pharrell have represented Adidas at different times.
Sales were huge for Adidas thanks to Run-DMC. In the DMC and Adidas collaboration a t-shirt was released featuring the band and brand for a one-off concert that same year. Only 1 of 30 were ever made, with an estimated value of $13,000 for an authentic one.
