10 Rarest Band T-Shirts Of All Time
10. John Lennon – ‘War Is Over’ – $1,875
It’s been said John Lennon was one of the most stylish and slick musicians in the history of music, reinventing himself with iconic looks to fit with the genre of music he was playing at the time. And his merch followed suit in being equally fashionable.
Post-Beatles John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band released the song ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ in the early '70s, with a series of ‘War is over! If you want it!’ promotional tees being released for the anti-Vietnam war protest song. It was a similar design to the New York City sleeveless tees Lennon would often sport. In 2007 one of those promotional tees fetched a staggering price of $1,875 at a New York auction, mostly due to very few being made as well as the importance of the song.
It’s worth noting because of Lennon’s tragic demise anything Lennon physically touched in his life has value to it. Most notable of which is a white shirt a concierge for The Dakota building (where John lived) was wearing when Lennon collapsed on him the night he was murdered – it sold for £31,000 at an auction with Lennon’s blood still being visible on the chest/sleeves.
