10 Rarest Band T-Shirts Of All Time

8. Rolling Stones – ‘Goats Head Soup’ Tour - $4250

Goat's Head Soup
V&A

When you think of Rolling Stones merch, you immediately think of the classic Rolling Stones lips and tongue logo that’s symbolized the band for 50 years. And the Stones were never shy on monetising it; they’ve put their lips on everything (wallets, poker sets, telephones, bank cards, face masks in 2020). But the lips/tongue are nowhere to be found on this next costly apparel.

‘Goats Head Soup’ was the 11th record the Stones put out. The curious title comes from a Jamaican dish/delicacy made up of a goat’s head, feet, legs, intestines and testicles the band consumed whilst recording the album in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Stones toured the record in 1973 and commissioned 12 sweaters embroidered with a Goat's Head logo at the front with multi-coloured stripes on the lower arms. Individual numbers were sewn in, with the band donning them and the order sharply being increased to 50 and given out to their roadies on tour.

One of these pullovers would sell at auction for $4250. A pricey amount for something that looks like your Gran on hallucinogenics knitted for you. Really, it looks like a hockey jersey for a team with a sinful goat as a mascot.
