6. The Heartbreak and/or Empowerment Phase
Falling in love, and falling out of love are 2 of the top 3 topics you'll hear in a song. But we can relate. Breakups suck, and they're not always pretty. And if you're a singer, your music is your therapy...that the rest of us unfortunately have to listen to. I'm not saying it's bad to pour your heart out into a song. I get it, and hell I've even done it. The problem I think we have is that you and about 4 other women had the same idea at the same time. And all of that estrogen ends up on the radio. It's kind of depressing if you think about it. Or maybe you're just feeling super awesome. Nothing wrong with writing about that, either. You want it to be an anthem for women, the brokenhearted, or insert general group of people that will relate to the song? Oh, and once again you're not the only one that had this bright idea? I guess I can't complain too much because people are still eating this up, no matter how generic or flat out dumb your song is.
