10 Reasons There Won't Ever Be Another Prince
7. Prince Redefined The Super Bowl Halftime Show
His performance at the 2007 Super Bowl Halftime Show didn't just prove what we already know, that Prince was a prolific musician worthy of the year's largest television audience.
What was really astonishing is just how much his concert stood out from the rest of the other legendary rock musicians who'd played at the Super Bowl. Just in the six years prior to Prince, the following artists all played the halftime show: Aerosmith, U2, Sting, Janet Jackson, Paul McCartney, and The Rolling Stones.
And then here comes Prince, blowing each and every one of them out of the damn water. The thing about these halftime performances is that the artist doesn't have very much time, so they usually just cram as many of their biggest hits as possible into a medley. Not Prince.
He led off with Queen's "We Will Rock You," played a couple of his own tracks (including the oft-forgotten "Baby I'm A Star"), and then launched into a string of other people's songs: CCR's "Proud Mary," Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower," and Foo Fighters' recent hit, "Best Of You."
And he played in the rain. It poured down that night and Prince, playing a real electric guitar plugged into real equipment, didn't flinch. He embraced it all. Because of course he did. He's f--king Prince.
