10 Reasons There Won't Ever Be Another Prince

6. First Artist To Have A Number One Single, Album, And Movie At The Same Time

1984 is Prince's commercial peak, and possibility his creative peak, as well. That's the year he released the movie that he co-wrote and starred in, the semi-autobiographical Purple Rain, which also spawned the Purple Rain album, bolstered by the lead single "When Doves Cry."

As if it wasn't impressive enough that a musician wrote a movie and the entire accompanying soundtrack, the film opened at number one at the box office, with both the album and lead single going to the top of the Billboard charts, all at the same time. Prince was the first person to pull off that hat trick.

It would be a shame if that wasn't the case, considering how surprisingly amazing Prince was in that movie. His acting had an appropriately light, almost winking quality to it, but the story was engrossing and the extended musical sequences throughout were top notch.

And, of course, the album itself remains possibly the greatest thing that Prince has ever created. Which is saying a lot considering that Prince created about half of all the great things to happen in your life.

One of those things just happened to be another soundtrack...
