8. Billy Jack - honeyhoney
When so many mainstream artists are conforming to the radio-sounds that listeners expect, the underground artists like honeyhoney truly stand out. The duo of Suzanne Santo (from Strongsville, Ohio) and Ben Jaffe (born in New York, grew up in Massachusetts) both branch from their home state roots and create bluesy, Southern-rock inspired gems that were developed in Nashville, Tennessee. The two use acoustic guitars, banjos, classic country drum beats, and old-men-on-the-front-porch sounds that mix with swampy blues and American folk. Suzanne plays the role of the lead vocalist, which adds a unique sound to the down-South vibe. honeyhoney released their debut album
First Rodeo in November of 2008, and then released their most recent album
Billy Jack in late October of 2011. The album and the duo have received critical acclaim from sources such as Paste Magazine and Glide Magazine. Here's the final track from honeyhoney's album
