10 Rock Album Covers That Led To Massive Lawsuits

4. Contra - Vampire Weekend

Of all of the bands that know how to cover their tracks, you'd think that Vampire Weekend would be on top of things. Since Ezra Koenig is known now to be a songwriting guru and one of the most laid back presences in rock music, it's hard to imagine him getting in too much hot water with anyone. And yet when they decided to release their sophomore album Contra, there was a certain girl who had something to say about that album artwork.

In one of the weirder ways of deciding on album art, Koenig originally suggested to have this as the album cover after guitarist Rostam found it while looking through the photographer's Flickr page. While that story checks out, the lady in the photo was not aware that she was even the subject of the album cover until her daughter brought home a copy of the album one day.

What unfolded has got to be one of the most convoluted ways to sue someone, as Ann Kirsten Kennis claimed that not only was it not Vampire Weekend's right to use her likeness, but also that the photographer didn't even take the photograph in the first place. Despite having the facts being all screwed up, the lawsuit was eventually dropped by Kennis once she settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money.
