10 Rock Albums That Are Way Too Bloated

9. Sandinista - The Clash

One of the biggest rules in punk rock music is always about getting to the point. Especially if you're coming from the Ramones school of rock and roll, it's about saying your piece and getting the hell out of there, otherwise you're basically a prog rock band. The Clash always had a lot to say though, and some fans may have felt the need to tap out when they announced what was coming on Sandinista.

While London Calling was already packed to the gills with amazing tracks across a double album, announcing a triple album release was a bit daunting even in the glory days of vinyl. Much like the Beatles' White Album, this is where you get to see every single side of what makes the Clash tick musically, from punk ragers to infusions of reggae to even dub music being brought in at different points on the album. For all the classics that are on here though, there are a few songs that seem a bit odd coming from the guys who were talking about resistance.

As much as the Clash haven't changed their tune in the punk community, hearing something like Career Opportunities reinterpolated from their debut album or hearing dub versions of the same song just begs to be left on the cutting room floor. Then again, the good stuff does balance the lackluster moments out by the end of things. Some of the reggae stuff might not appeal to everyone, but it's worth it if it means getting something like the Magnificent Seven.
