10 Rock Albums That Artists Regret Making
6. Ten - Pearl Jam
At the start of the '90s, the rock industry was about to be flipped on its head. Once Nirvana started the ball rolling with Nevermind, the alternative nation was about to take over the mainstream, with Pearl Jam's Ten being not far behind. For as much as songs like Black and Jeremy still resonate with fans around the world, this is the one album that the members still can't listen to.
This comes more down to a production issue than anything else. While many of these songs have become staples of PJ's live set over the years, Eddie Vedder has been vocal about how he hates the way the record was mixed, thinking it sounded far too radio-friendly to be taken seriously. It's not hard to see where he's coming from either, with the massive drum sound of the record having much more in common with arena rock than the indie style they were shooting for.
Then again, that same kind of production is what made the record explode across the world, becoming the calling card for what grunge would become later down the road. At the same time, this did introduce us to the signature baritone style which would become abused to death as well with acts like Godsmack and Puddle of Mudd. A bit of a mix blessing...but not bad by any stretch of the imagination.
