10 Rock Albums That Artists Regret Making
4. Be Here Now - Oasis
There comes a point in most artists' careers when they hit the sweet spot of their songwriting. For as much time as you may spend honing your chops, these are normally the times when everything is at full capacity, where lyrics and melodies flow out of you through pure osmosis. When you're up that high though, no one really thinks of what's it like coming back down.
Instead of just refining their sound even further, Be Here Now by Oasis is the moment where everything came crashing down for these lads from Manchester, with Noel Gallagher throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck. Though there are the makings of good Oasis songs in here, the sheer length of the tunes as well as the countless amounts of overdubbing make the whole thing feel like a bloated mess than a rock and roll record.
As time has gone on, it doesn't even look like Noel can defend the record anymore either, even saying about how the songs were garbage not even a decade after the record had been made. Although there have been remixes of the album that have cut down on the song lengths, no real edit can hide the more uninspired moments on every song. For as much as this was supposed to be the start of a new era for Oasis, this ended up putting the final nail in the coffin for Britpop.
