10 Rock Albums That Get Way Too Much Hate
8. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
Around the turn of the century, the chances of the era of '70s rock coming back seemed to be a pipe dream more often than not. When you had some of those bands actually trying, you got stuff like Van Halen III, which now seems like more of an embarrassment for one of rock's greatest acts. And while Just Push Play might not have been the greatest thing in the world, you could at least see where Aerosmith were coming from.
Ever since the '80s, there had been a lot more sheen put into the Bad Boys From Boston, so this almost felt like the logical conclusion, with them making glittery power pop. Then again, you can tell why the hardcore fans were upset by something like this, seeing the guys who made songs like Dream On and Walk This Way turning in soft rock ballads and not getting the lead out. So what caused them to do this? Simple: I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing.
After striking gold with that one soundtrack song, this sounds like an album trying to capitalize on that sound, and they actually aren't half bad at it if songs like the title track and Beyond Beautiful are any indication. This probably would have made for an unstoppable EP, but it certainly doesn't deserve to be the Album That Shall Not Be Named in Aerosmith's catalog or anything. Most artists of their age had found a sound and stuck with it by now, so to see them actually taking risks like this is oddly refreshing.
