10 Rock Albums That Peak With The First Song

9. Doolittle - Pixies

Hey, that band from Fight Club have another song!

Diehard alt-rock fans will of course know all about the extensive back catalogue of Pixies, including their sophomore album from 1989 titled Doolittle.

Rather than a collection of covers from My Fair Lady or the band chatting with some animals for 40 minutes, Doolittle is 15 tracks of wacky goodness with two real standouts.

The first is Monkey Gone to Heaven, the first single released from the album. It's fairly subdued for the band, focused more on singer Black Francis' musings on life and the world beyond it. It's a beloved track by music snobs everywhere.

But, for our money, the best track on the whole thing is the rip-roaring opener Debaser.

Based on a film written by Salvador DalĂ - because why not? - the track is absolutely mad, with Francis yelling the title over and over again over a fuzzy guitar riff.

The song sets up the rest of the album and the band's career perfectly, as it is completely off the rails and thoroughly entertaining. The Monkey may have gone to Heaven, but this is our idea of eternal bliss.
