10 Rock Albums That Peak With The First Song

8. Dirt - Alice In Chains

The 1992 album Dirt by Alice in Chains kicks off with lead singer Layne Staley going "AHHHH!" at the top of his voice.

Do we really need to say anything else? Oh, we do? For goodness' sake...

Them Bones is the band's take on death and mortality and it's incredibly blunt. One day, we'll all just end up as a big pile of bones, so what are you so worried about?

If only it were that easy, Alice in Chains...

Not only has Staley's opening cry gone down in rock history, but the entire rest of the song is now considered a grunge staple. The off-tempo time signature is incredibly memorable, if a little unusual, and the fuzzy guitars and chunky chords are a microcosm of everything that made 90s rock so great.

It's got some stiff competition on this record - Rooster and Would? are both brilliant too - but for its place in the Alice in Chains canon and its insane quality, Them Bones comes out on top.

And if you don't agree, then it doesn't matter, because we're going to die one day anyway...
