10 Rock Albums That Peak With The Second Song

1. Master Of Puppets - Metallica

Yet another third album, Master of Puppets was Metallica announcing itself as one of the big boys in the world of rock.

Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning had been great, but this was the album that would get everyone talking and the title track was a major contributor to that.

Spanning a stunning eight minutes and 36 seconds, the song Master of Puppets is everything Metallica does best all at once. It's still in the thrash style that made them famous, but it has so much melody to it that it never becomes overbearing.

Hetfield's shrieking vocals take you on a proper journey throughout this song, completely engulfing you in the huge narrative it creates. It is expertly crafted, essentially a mini-opera but with Lars Ulrich instead of Pavarotti.

The rest of the album has plenty of gems for sure. Damage Inc. is a firm favourite, as are The Thing That Should Not Be, Battery, Welcome Home, and so on.

But guys, this is Master of Puppets we're talking about it!

If it's good enough for Stranger Things, then it's good enough for the top of this list.
