10 Rock Albums That Were Ruined By One Song
9. Hello I Love You - The Doors
When The Doors were cutting their first songs, it was becoming clear that this was the kind of music for the misfits in the rock community. The Beatles may have been singing songs for the masses, but the sounds of Light My Fire and People Are Strange had a much darker quality to them, giving you a look at the darker side of what the Love Generation was offering. That wasn't enough for the record company though, and Waiting for the Sun starts off with one of the weirdest songs they ever wrote.
While everything by the Doors could be considered weird to some extent, what's really off about Hello I Love You is just how mainstream it is, being a carbon copy of the Kinks' All Day and All of the Night and Jim Morrison sounding like he's about to fall asleep during the recording of this song. This may have been their surefire hit to come off of this record, but where it ruins the album is where it's put in the track listing. This is the first thing you hear on the record, and to have the songs that follow be Love Street and Not To Touch The Earth really gave fans the wrong impression.
If they had included something like the title track on here that would end up on Morrison Hotel, the whole record actually would have held up as one of the stranger records that the group would ever create. Jim never wanted to be in a band that made music for car commercials, but you can practically see the ad agencies lining up to use this song to promote something.
