10 Rock Albums That You MUST Listen To In Full

7. A Night At the Opera - Queen

As rock arrived in the '70s, it was time for things to kick up a notch. While the hippy dream may have been fun for a while, it was time to wake up and actually see the new possibilities that could come from this little genre known as rock and roll. Some acts might went heavy, some to progressive...but Queen found their real calling in the theatrical realm.

That's not to say that Queen's previous output wasn't spellbinding on its own, with albums like Sheer Heart Attack setting the stage for what was to come. Once they got to a Night At the Opera, Freddie Mercury settled into his classic period, making one smart rock piece after another on tracks like Love of My Life and Death on Two Legs. The other members certainly are no slouches either, as Roger Taylor brings the rock on I'm In Love With My Car, Brian May's stories on 39, and John Deacon making his leap to the forefront on You're My Best Friend.

However, you need to appreciate the journey before you get to Bohemian Rhapsody at the end, which takes every disparate genre that Queen had played with and puts them into one 6 minute juggernaut of a track. Even though none of this is really supposed to work for your average band, sometimes it takes a band like Queen to tell you that taking risks pays off big-time.
