10 Rock Albums That You Were Never Supposed To Hear

2. Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk - Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley is one of those artists that had a 'blink-or-you'll-miss-him' quality to his music. Just when you thought his debut album Grace would catapult him into the rock stratosphere, any potential for him becoming a star was snuffed out when he was found in a river in 1997, having drowned a few days before. Even though Buckley was no longer here in physical form, his spirit wasn't done haunting us yet on Sketches for My Sweetheart.

Being pretty far into the recording process of his next release, a lot of these songs are made up of rehearsals, first drafts, and in some cases completed songs for what would have been Buckley's follow-up. What's even more heartbreaking than his death is when you realize that this was a man just coming into his own as a musician.

Take something like Vancouver for example, which gently starts by being emotionally transplant before turning into one of the more ferocious cuts he had ever laid down. From the sounds of a song like this, it feels like Jeff was building off what he did on Grace, only refining it to create a sound that was a lot heavier than anyone might have anticipated. While Jeff Buckley never grew into the rock superstar that he was destined to be, he did leave a piece of his soul in between some of these tunes.
