10 Rock And Metal Albums From The 2000s The Critics Got Wrong

3. Take To The Skies - Enter Shikari (2007)

Enter Shikari are hard to label. Their debut – like all of their material – is a cocktail of genres ranging from upbeat electronica to metalcore.

Despite this lack of cohesion, Take to the Skies sold remarkably well thanks to the band’s devoted fanbase and relentless touring schedule in the U.K. Whilst the critic response was by no means bad, few seemed to realise just how special Enter Shikari were at this time. Most major publications gave the album a mixed review, and only NME seemed to recognise the brilliance of this young band.

‘Mothership’, ‘Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour…’, and ‘Ok, Time For Plan B’ are the best examples of Enter Shikari’s knack for mixing multiple sounds. But tracks such as ‘Adieu’ and ‘Today Won't Go Down In History’ also exemplify the band’s ability to write great melodies.

Though Enter Shikari have certainly made better records in more recent times, their debut remains a great album to this day.
