10 Rock Bands That Defined The 2000's

6. The White Stripes

The 90's showed rock becoming deadly serious. The grunge scene had brought with it a focus on depression, existentialism, and other heady topics. So when a two piece rock band from Detroit came out playing primitive garage rock, it was a breath of fresh air.

Frontman Jack White's vision with the White Stripes was to strip everything down to its bare essentials. What is the most that can be done with simply two people on stage? The answer: some pretty damn good rock music. Songs like "Fell in Love With a Girl" brought the manic energy back to rock while "Seven Nation Army" became an arena anthem the world over.

While some may argue that the White Stripes may be a tad overrated due to their simple approach to songwriting, the band stayed true to their sound while pushing themselves until their final album Icky Thump. But the White Stripes did more than just kick out the jams.

They helped us get over the pretentiousness of rock and embrace the "anything goes" mentality that is a staple of the genre in the first place.

Just get over yourself, plug in, and rock the hell out.
