10 Rock Bands That Defined The 2000's
5. The Killers
From their debut album Hot Fuss, The Killers sounded like your favorite 80's pop band that for some reason never became popular until the 2000's.
With hits like the undeniable "Mr Brightside" or the dancy "Somebody Told Me," songwriter Brandon Flowers was on the cusp of something unprecedented.
The band went further down the rabbit hole with 2006's Sam's Town, which had equally strong moments like "When You Were Young" and "For Reasons Unknown." The band also stretched their musical muscles by channeling the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen. After Hot Fuss, the band proved that they were much more than the 80's synths.
Even though they aren't having as many show-stopping hit singles as they did in their prime, the band have maintained a reputation as a steady album-centric band. Above all, they have stuck to their guns without having to cater to what they think the music industry wants out of them.
Throughout their career, Brandon Flowers and company held onto their passion for the art. The ideal is that you make music because you want to rather than because you have to.
Whereas many bands in the 2000's were about rocking out and proving something with their music, the Killers were the ones who understood the heart of rock music.
