10 Rock Bands That Destroyed Their Own Legacies

8. Guns N Roses

Guns N Roses were one of the saving graces coming from LA in the late 80's. In an age when most bands were trying to out-pretty one another with their platform shoes and gigantic hair, these guys brought a certain authenticity back into rock and roll on their album Appetite for Destruction.

Even when the grandiose Use Your Illusion records came out, it still felt like an extension of the sewer rat rock and rollers we always knew. Once the band got back from touring though, no one really felt on the same page anymore. Frontman Axl Rose insisted on going forward with his own musical ambitions, which the rest of the band had gotten completely fed up with.

By the mid-90's, fans were dealt a gut punch when everyone in the band sans Axl left the group, leaving Rose as the only member with the rights to the Guns N Roses name. It eventually took 14 years and a countless musicians roster before Rose finally came through with a new album from GNR, which was met with mixed results to say the least. The band could have certainly gotten back to their roots years ago, but too much time has gone by to expect anything truly spellbinding from this band anymore.
