10 Rock Bands That Destroyed Their Own Legacies
5. KISS
Whether you or not you even liked the music of KISS, you can't deny their identity as true originals in the rock genre. Inspired by acts like Alice Cooper, the band combined the right amount of shock, horror, and fun to create the ultimate rock and roll show that has remained unmatched to this day.
The songwriting chops on Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have also produced many bangers throughout the years, but their statements to the press have led to more than a few questionable stances. From day one, Gene Simmons has always been upfront about his more selfish personality, but the actual business practices the band have engaged in make them feel less like a band and more of a brand in the same vein as Nike or Disney.
While the bands was known as a collective outfit in the spirit of the Beatles, the all-for-one attitude quickly faded after the band made their way into the 80's. The music was still intact, but there was no question as to which members steered the ship. In the most glaring insult to their early days, the band are now dressing up other players to perform in the makeup and character personas of former members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. They may still be rocking and rolling all night, but the initial magic seems to have been tapped a long time ago.
