10 Rock Bands That Had More Than One Lead Singer

7. The Who

It seems strange talking about the two singers in The Who when you take into account that Roger Daltrey... well... exists. Ever since he first graced the stage as part of the Mod scene, Daltrey's unshakeable wail has been the calling card for these rock legends, with a tone that has as much muscle as it does heart. Daltrey may be the soul of the band, but he is far from the only face at work on the band's classics.

Across the group's run in the late '60s and early '70s, some of their most memorable cuts have been made by both Pete Townshend and John Entwistle. On the surface, it's perfectly within Townshend's rights to sing songs that he actually composed, but when you hear the voice he's working with, it's much more suited to the slower ballads than the rip roaring performances you get out of Daltrey. Though Townshend may be the primary songwriter, each one of Entwistle's contributions are amazing on their own, as he brings a certain ruggedness to his songs like My Wife or Boris the Spider.

I will contest that Keith Moon does have a fair share of vocals on Who records, but his often piss-takes on songs are a bit too hilarious to actually be taken seriously. Rather than settle behind the one great singer in the band, the alternating microphone on Who songs gives the band much more character than most of the other high-profile acts of the late '60s.
