10 Rock Bands That Never Made The Same Album Twice

8. Deftones

Across the metal community, there has always been some debate as to where to put Deftones in the conversation. While there are definitely some bits of post rock in their delivery, something like Bored doesn't really match up with the same kind of mellow groove as other bands of their ilk. They came up with the nu metal crowd, yet no other band can claim to have something like Change in their catalog. So...what the hell are Deftones? Answer: Deftones.

Ever since their second album Around the Fur, these Deft Ones have played by their own rules for each respective album, going for whatever kind of sound would fit underneath their melodies. Although you can normally expect something a bit off kilter, the back catalog of Around the Fur and White Pony is like night and day, almost like they matured into the hipster versions of themselves overnight.

Going into the '00s though, there's even more free flowing ideas coming out, with Gore having a dream pop feel and Ohms going in even further atmospheric directions. Hell, even their big comeback Diamond Eyes shouldn't even be considered a comeback, given that none of these tracks would have found their way onto White Pony or anything. Even though metal has branched out into different iterations throughout its tenure, you still have to put Deftones in every single category.
