10 Rock Bands That Never Made The Same Album Twice
7. Talking Heads
For all of the different subgenres that rock has to offer, new wave has got to be one of the laziest names imaginable. Even though acts like Devo and Blondie may have sounded futuristic, just naming a genre after the sounds of the future just makes the whole thing feel silly rather than actually innovative. Then again, a band like Talking Heads have still managed to sound modern to this day.
Originally starting off as a nervy form of punk on their album 77, David Byrne's warped vision for the band went down some darker pathways the minute they started their next record. Working in conjunction with electronic soundsmiths like Brian Eno, the next run of albums saw Byrne experimenting with everything from funk to Afrobeat to straight up world music. That eclectic nature is pretty much encapsulated on Once in a Lifetime, showing them go from strength to strength while incorporating every weird trick in the book.
Even on the more lighter efforts like Little Creatures, David Byrne is still as weird as ever, from the lyrical pictures he paints to sounding like a robot who's just now beginning to figure out how normal humans behave. While some people may call this kind of thing the sign of the musical apocalypse, you'd be surprised to hear the perks of our modern musical overlords.
