10 Rock Bands That Never Made The Same Album Twice

3. Slipknot

As far reaching as it has come in recent years, the mainstream community still doesn't seem to know what to do with the metal bands of old. Unless you're name is Metallica, there's a good chance that none of your songs are going to find their way onto pop stations or anything. Then again, there's a way to reinvent your sound besides just turning the volume all the way up.

Though Slipknot managed to start out in the nu metal category, they have taken a quantum leap from that every single time they make a record. On their sophomore release Iowa, they managed to make one of the heaviest records known to man, with songs that took bits and pieces from death metal and turning it into one of the most supremely screwed up things to ever grace the charts. So at that point, they did what all bands would do and...got softer.

Across albums like Vol. III and All Hope is Gone, Slipknot have gone everywhere they could think of with their sound, from the hook laden bravado of Before I Forget to the balladry of Snuff. Even on the most recent record We Are Not Your Kind, we're still seeing new innovations with different electronic bits added to the mix. Since we don't really get Slipknot albums all that often, it's clear that it just needs to be the right time before the 9 decide to unleash Hell.
