10 Rock Bands That Never Made The Same Album Twice

2. David Bowie

When trying to make a name for yourself in the music scene, any average band would want a typical calling card to brand as distinctively their own. After all, when you're playing against some of the biggest names in the scene, you need to have some sort of gimmick to make yourself stand out. Or in David Bowie's case, just make a couple of them and wait for them to stick.

Though originally starting off in the vaudeville rock scene, David Bowie may be one of the few artists who can claim to have done it all throughout his tenure. After making some of the most letter perfect glam rock in the '70s, Bowie really managed to play up his chameleon like persona, going for everything from krautrock on his album Station to Station to going full on pop mode on the album Let's Dance.

The innovation didn't stop after a few decades though, with Earthling showing him delve into the world of electronic and industrial music before closing off his entire career on Blackstar, whose weird experiments with avant garde jazz made the perfect backdrop for the Starman's final days. Given all of the ground he covered in his time, it made sense that Bowie adopted personas for these eras. If you want to have a unique background, sometimes you have to play by the Joker's rules and have it be multiple choice.
