10 Rock Bands That Released 2 Masterpiece Albums In A Row

9. Tool

If there's anything that we've learned from Tool, it's that they like to take their sweet time when making a record. Just ask any fan of the band that was onboard back in the day and they will tell you how grueling it was having to wait over a decade for Fear Inoculum to take shape back in 2019. Then again, you can't really argue with the results once they actually get here.

Giving us a teaser on the song Third Eye off of Aenema, the entire scope of Lateralus was a lot bigger than anyone anticipated, with the band going for something a lot more punishing while still keeping their crazy complex side intact. Although there was a noticeable dip into some psychedelic vibes, the riffs from something like the title track or Schism made you want to take that trip over and over again.

With time comes experience though, and 10,000 Days was by far the most emotional Tool record that they had released up to that point, like when Maynard has his heart on his sleeve throughout the Wings for Marie sequence. And that's before you get to the rest of the songs, with most of them delving into different suites depending on which point of the album you're in. Lateralus may have been the proof of concept for greatness, but the next album is where Tool fully grew into the prog elderstatesmen that they were always destined to be.
