10 Rock Bands That Released 2 Masterpiece Albums In A Row

7. Prince

The start of the '80s wasn't necessarily all that kind to the sounds of R&B. With the sounds of disco still firmly in every rocker's memory, you didn't have a prayer of crossing over to the rock world if you decided to put some funk into your sound. When the dust settled though, Prince clawed his way to the top, and he was going to dominate every single genre known to man in order to do it.

Though the Purple One already had some modest success on the R&B charts at the time, it wasn't until 1999 that things really started to kick into high gear, with delves into the world of pop rock on songs like the title track and Little Red Corvette. As he started to become a staple on MTV, the next logical thing was to go to the silver screen, with the rest of the Revolution firmly in tow for the next album.

Whereas 1999 was R&B with a dash of rock and roll, Purple Rain is about as arena rock as Prince got in his prime, with the title track being a pure wrecking ball of emotion and breaking out some of the greatest guitar chops of the decade on the album opener Let's Go Crazy. In the world of pop music, Michael Jackson may have been called the King of Pop...but everyone knows that there's only one Prince.
