10 Rock Bands Who Only Have One Original Member Left
9. Iron Maiden
The entire metal movement never really kicked into high gear until the New Wave of British Heavy Metal got underway. Whereas bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple may have planted the seeds for what metal would become, the sounds of acts like Saxon and Diamond Head became the blueprint for what the genre would look like going forward. In the grand pantheon of metal though, there can only be one Iron Maiden.
That being said, the Maiden we got to know back in the day is a lot different than the monster we know today. Before Bruce Dickinson came into the fold, lead singer Paul Di'Anno was the original singer, along with guitarists like Adrian Smith and Dennis Stratton coming through the ranks. Out of all the standout players, the real heart of Maiden has always been Steve Harris. From the very beginning, Steve's relentless right hand on the bass has created the foundation for Maiden's writing, from the broad scope of lyrical themes to the gallop that became synonymous with metal.
Even though the present iteration of Maiden has ballooned into a three-guitar attack, the sound of the group has always managed to remain intact with Steve out front. No matter how many compliments you might like to pay to Bruce Dickinson or even Dave Murray over the years, Steve Harris is Iron Maiden.
