10 Rock Bands Who Sold Out (But We Love Them Anyway)
2. Blink-182
It's hard to think of immature aficionados Blink-182 as being bothered enough to sell out, but the laid back, chilled out pop punk they're most associated with is a far cry from their early releases.
Stalwarts of the California indie scene in the mid-'90s, Blink first broke through with a song from their second album called Dammit. A much punkier affair than we'd be used to now, Dammit was about the pain of seeing a former partner with someone else and just how hard it was to grow up.
Now, contrast this with the message on their third album Enema of the State, which can be boiled down to "We won't grow up, and you can't make us."
The band pivoted hard into the cheesiness of pop punk, launching themselves into the stratosphere with songs like All the Small Things and What's My Age Again?
Whilst this won them a whole bunch of new fans, it was a serious transition from the down-to-earth kids that they had previously been seen as.
The fact that Blink still keep up the whole "childish and proud of it" act to this day proves that it's all just a façade.
