2. Slipknot
Nine band members. Jump-suits. Masks. Most of you know the drill with Slipknot by now, but they cannot be overlooked for their contributions to live music. With so many of them on stage, each member fighting for the crowd's attention, these anarchic shows are some of the most entertaining you’ll ever see.
Like many of the heavier bands mentioned on this list, Slipknot like to light things on fire. However, they have taken it a step further in previous years, opting to light themselves on fire- rather than just air, props, instruments and so on. Whilst health and safety concerns brought an end to this for a lot of their shows, there’s still plenty pyro to go around whenever they perform.
Percussion also plays a huge part in Slipknot’s production, with rhythm percussionists choosing baseball bats and large, steel canisters over conventional instruments, and with the lead drummer strapping in for upside-down solos and plenty of rotation on his own platform. The combination of this raw energy and stuntman drumming brings the show to life, especially as it reaches its climax.
With stellar performances both musically and visually, you haven’t experienced Slipknot until you’ve seen them live. Be warned, however- the mosh pit is not for the faint of heart.
