10 Rock Bands With Five Or More Number 1 Albums

5. Metallica - 6

Of all the chart success stories on this list, thrash metal pioneers Metallica might just be the least likely.

Starting out as an underground act in the Bay Area in the '80s, Metallica enjoyed moderate chart success with their first three albums. Album number four, ...And Justice For All, got to sixth place in the Billboard charts and, from that moment on, everything changed.

Their next release, commonly known as the Black Album, was their most radio-friendly yet; a move that paid off big time when it topped the US charts and sold eight million copies across the country.

All five of the band's following releases bagged the number one spot, giving them a run of six best-sellers on the bounce. Sadly, this run came to an end fairly recently, when 2023's 72 Seasons could only manage second place.

It was kept off by Morgan Wallen's One Thing at a Time, which was in week five of 12 at number one. It didn't stand a chance, really.

Though their streak may be over, it's important to celebrate how insane such an accomplishment is for a band as loud and frightening as Metallica.
