10 Rock Bands With Five Or More Number 1 Albums

6. Led Zeppelin - 6

Though they were able to achieve one more number one album in their home country of the United Kingdom, Led Zeppelin's popularity in the United States is not to be underestimated.

The godfathers of hard rock achieved their first number one on both sides of the pond with the very same album, Led Zeppelin II, and the next decade was a series of smashes one after the other.

Next came Led Zeppelin III, another dual chart-topper, before Led Zepplin IV broke the trend by only reaching number two. Perhaps American audiences had finally gotten sick of the band naming records after themselves?

Clearly, Led Zep thought this was the case, as their next album had a proper name, Houses of the Holy. The American public responded well to this change, sending them back to the top spot once again.

This trend would continue until the band's final album, 1979's In Through the Out Door. Out of a possible eight, six of the band's albums reached number one in the US, giving them a success rate of 75%.

God only knows if this number would have been higher had the band stayed together for longer than ten years.
